Effect of vitamin D supplementation on lipid profile in vitamin D-deficient children with type 1 diabetes and dyslipidemia
Hormone Research in Paediatrics Jul 05, 2019
Hafez M, et al. - In dyslipidemic T1D patients, researchers explored the connection between serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D (25OHD) and lipid profiles and the impact of vitamin D (VD) supplementation on lipid profiles of T1D patients who ae VD deficient. Study participants included 50 patients with T1D for >2 years and dyslipidemia. Investigators found that 30 patients had VDD, while 20 patients had VD sufficiency. In patients with T1D, VDD was frequently seen. In patients with T1D, no significant correlation was found between 25OHD levels and lipid profile. There was a significant difference in the family history of coronary heart disease and free tetraiodothyronine 4 between the two groups. Supplementation of VD over 4 months had a significantly reduced LDL and HbA1c.
