Effect of vaginal mesh hysteropexy vs vaginal hysterectomy with uterosacral ligament suspension on treatment failure in women with uterovaginal prolapse: A randomized clinical trial
JAMA Sep 24, 2019
Nager CW, Visco AG, Richter HE, et al. - Researchers investigated the efficacy and adverse events related with vaginal mesh hysteropexy vs vaginal hysterectomy with uterosacral ligament suspension in women with uterovaginal prolapse. They conducted a randomized clinical trial including 175 postmenopausal women with symptomatic uterovaginal prolapse undergoing surgical intervention. Outcomes revealed a hazard ratio for a composite measure of treatment failure of 0.62 after 3 years was observed with vaginal mesh hysteropexy vs vaginal hysterectomy with uterosacral ligament suspension. This hazard ratio was not statistically significant, but the CI was wide and the P-value was 0.06. This precluded a definitive conclusion.
