Effect of tourniquet use on patient outcomes following cementless total knee arthroplasty: A randomized controlled trial
Journal of Arthroplasty Feb 02, 2021
Smith AF, Usmani R, Wilson K, et al. - In this study, the effect of short vs long tourniquet time on pain, opioid consumption, and patient outcomes were compared. Individuals were assigned randomly to a short tourniquet (ST) time of 10 min vs. long tourniquet (LT) time. Researches enrolled 100 consecutive patients undergoing primary cementless robotic-assisted total knee arthroplasty (TKA) had undergone randomization, with 5 patients unable to complete follow-up, leaving 49 in the ST group and 46 in the LT cohort. No significant advantage of short tourniquet use was observed in primary TKA with respect to opioid consumption, patient-reported pain, KSS scores, LOS, or postoperative Hgb level.
