Effect of tiotropium inhaler use on mortality in patients with tuberculous destroyed lung: Based on linkage between hospital and nationwide health insurance claims data in South Korea
Respiratory Research May 09, 2019
Kim HC, et al. - Researchers observed a retrospective cohort of 963 patients with tuberculous destroyed lung (TDL) for up to ten years, to determine the impact of tiotropium inhaler therapy on mortality in these patients. They used propensity score matching to balance the baseline features in both tiotropium group (n = 105) and the non-tiotropium group (n = 105), and others. After adjusting age, sex, body mass index, smoking history, modified Medical Research Council dyspnea score, Charlson Comorbidity Index, concomitant chronic obstructive pulmonary disease diagnosis, forced expiratory volume in 1 s, X-ray severity score, and home oxygen usage in the multivariate Cox proportional hazard analysis, a lower risk of mortality was observed in relation to tiotropium inhaler usage. Overall, tiotropium inhaler attenuated all-cause mortality in TDL.
