Effect of timolol on aqueous humor outflow facility in healthy human eyes
American Journal of Ophthalmology Feb 23, 2019
Kazemi A, et al. - In this prospective, before-and-after study, investigators assessed 113 healthy participants of age 40 years and older to analyze the outcome of timolol (an aqueous humor flow suppressant) on outflow facility in healthy eyes. They recorded a decline in mean intraocular pressure (IOP) from 15.1 ± 3.0 mmHg at baseline to 12.4 ± 2.4 mmHg after 1 week of timolol use. A decrease in mean outflow facility from 0.23 ± 0.08 μL/min/mmHg at baseline to 0.18 ± 0.08 μL/min/mmHg after timolol was also noted. They also found a negative correlation between change in outflow facility and baseline outflow facility.
