Nephrology Jul 12, 2018
Matsukuma Y, et al. - Given poor graft survival in patients with post-transplant immunoglobulin A nephropathy has been observed in recent studies, researchers investigated if steroid pulse therapy is an effective therapeutic option for post-transplant immunoglobulin A nephropathy. They performed a retrospective analysis of patients who received steroid pulse therapy (500 mg/day for 3 days in weeks 1 and 2, followed by 20 mg of oral prednisolone that was tapered after 6 months) for de novo or recurrent immunoglobulin A nephropathy diagnosed at Kyushu University Hospital between January 2013 and August 2015. They found that 2-year follow up findings showed effective attenuation of proteinuria in patients treated with steroid pulse therapy for post-transplant immunoglobulin A nephropathy.
