Effect of severe diarrhoea on kidney transplant outcomes

Kim JE, et al. - Researchers conducted a retrospective study enrolling patients who underwent kidney transplantation to determine how diarrhea, the most common gastrointestinal complication, affects transplant outcomes in these patients. They assessed a total of 1,704 kidney recipients; of these, 84 (4.9%) patients suffered severe diarrhea that required hospitalization. The analysis revealed correlation of diarrhea with poor graft and patients’ outcomes in kidney recipients. They emphasize making efforts to recover from concurrent acute kidney injury for enhanced graft survival.
