Effect of risk of malnutrition on 30-day mortality among older patients with acute heart failure in emergency departments
European Journal of Internal Medicine May 12, 2019
Martín-Sánchez FJ, et al. – In this study, researchers evaluated the effect of malnutrition risk on 30-day mortality risk among older patients who attended in emergency departments (EDs) for acute heart failure (AHF). They analyzed the connection between risk of malnutrition and 30-day mortality via using unadjusted and adjusted logistic regression models. In 16 Spanish EDs for AHF, they conducted a secondary analysis of the OAK-3 Registry, including all consecutive patients aged ≥ 65 years attending. Study participants included 749 patients. In all, the rate of 30-day mortality was 8.8%. In older patients with AHF who were attended in EDs, the risk of malnutrition was linked to 30-day mortality. The investigators suggested that routine malnutrition risk screening can help emergency doctors make decisions and set up a care plan.
