Effect of periodontal treatment on HbA1c among patients with prediabetes
Journal of Dental Research Oct 21, 2018
Kocher T, et al. - In periodontitis patients with normal HbA1c, prediabetes, or unknown diabetes, experts evaluated if nonsurgical periodontal treatment, with or without an adjunctive systemic antibiotic treatment, has an impact on HbA1c and high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP) levels over a period of 27.5 months. In the normal HbA1c and prediabetes groups, median hsCRP values were reduced from 1.2 and 1.4 mg/L to 0.7 and 0.7 mg/L, respectively. Blood glucose values among periodontitis patients with prediabetes may be improved by the nonsurgical periodontal treatment.
