Effect of mean HbA1c on the association of HbA1c variability and all-cause mortality in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Jan 10, 2020
Tseng JY, Hsin-Hung ChenHY, Huang KC, et al. - Expert evaluated the impact of of mean hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) on the association between HbA1c variability and all-cause mortality and the correlated risk in individuals with type T2DM. A sum of 4,216 individuals with T2DM and at least three HbA1c assessments within 12 to 24 months were enrolled. They applied HbA1c variability score, coefficient of variation, and standard deviation to assess variability. The data indicated that mean HbA1c contributed to the association between HbA1c variability and all-cause mortality. The similar risk correlation was observed between HbA1c variability and glycemic control status. In addition, the association between mean HbA1c and mortality demonstrated a J-shaped distribution for both low and high HbA1c variability.
