Effect of liver cirrhosis on the outcomes of peritoneal dialysis
Peritoneal Dialysis International Nov 28, 2019
Jung YL, Park JY, Lee CS, et al. - By analyzing 45 patients (≥ 18 years old) who initiated peritoneal dialysis (PD) at 4 tertiary referral centers between January 2000 and December 2015 and were suffering from liver cirrhosis (LC) [LC-PD], researchers compared outcomes between these patients vs non-LC-PD patients (non-LC-PD) or patients with LC who received hemodialysis (LC-HD), focusing on technique failure, infection, and mortality. The selection of all patients involved 1:1 matching of age, gender, catheter insertion date, and diabetes mellitus. The participants were observed for a mean duration of 43 ± 35.8 months. According to the findings, there was no influence of the presence of LC on dialysis outcomes such as technique failure, infection, and mortality. Accordingly, PD therapy represents a good choice in patients with LC.
