Effect of generalized anxiety disorders on the success of pessary treatment for pelvic organ prolapse
International Urogynecology Journal Jul 19, 2018
Ai FF, et al. - The impact of generalized anxiety disorders (GAD) on the effectiveness of pessary treatment for pelvic organ prolapse (POP) was assessed in postmenopausal women. In this prospective study, researchers analyzed 110 women with symptomatic POP who underwent pessary treatment. The Pelvic Floor Distress Inventory (PFDI-20) and the Pelvic Floor Impact Questionnaire-7 (PFIQ-7) were used for subjective evaluations of pelvic floor symptoms. The Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7 (GAD-7) was used to measure GAD. Findings revealed a significant improvement in QoL scores after 3 months of pessary treatment in both groups of women with or without GAD. Thereby suggesting no influence of GAD on the success of pessary treatment for POP.
