Effect of exercise, escitalopram, or placebo on anxiety in patients with coronary heart disease
JAMA Aug 23, 2021
Blumenthal JA, Smith PJ, Jiang W, et al. - Escitalopram is identified as safe and effective for reducing anxiety in patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and high anxiety. However, exercise had less consistent beneficial effects on anxiety symptoms.
A randomized clinical trial was performed including 128 patients with CHD and anxiety.
Reduction in levels of anxiety and depression was evident in correlation with escitalopram, but not exercise, when compared with a placebo control.
CHD biomarkers of risk did not improve in correlation with performing exercise and receiving escitalopram.
