Effect of depression screening after acute coronary syndromes on quality of life: The CODIACS-QoL randomized clinical trial
JAMA Internal Medicine Oct 25, 2019
Kronish IM, Moise N, Cheung YK, et al. - In this 3-group multisite randomized clinical trial of data of 1,500 survivors of the acute coronary syndrome (ACS) from four healthcare systems between November 1, 2013, and March 31, 2017, experts ascertained whether systematically screening for depression in survivors of ACS enhanced quality of life and depression in contrast with usual care. Raised 8-item Patient Health Questionnaire scores were noted in only 71 of 1,000 eligible survivors of ACS had designating depressive symptoms at the screening. No variations in mean (SD) change in quality-adjusted life-years or cumulative mean (SD) depression-free days were discovered. Harms like death, bleeding, or sleep complications did not vary between groups. Thus, systematic depression screening with or without giving depression treatment did not modify quality-adjusted life-years, depression-free days, or harms in individuals with ACS with no history of depression.
