Effect of community screening on the demographic makeup and clinical severity of glaucoma patients receiving care in urban China
American Journal of Ophthalmology Jul 29, 2018
Liang Y, et al. - Authors evaluated the differences in clinical and demographic characteristics between glaucoma patients identified by community screening and those newly diagnosed in hospital in a Chinese setting. Significantly milder damage was seen in Glaucoma patients detected through community screening and these patients were more likely to include under-served groups (women, elderly) vs newly diagnosed in a clinic in this setting. In China, cases of glaucoma with IOP < 21 mmHg are severely under-ascertained and improvement could be achieved through screening; as suggested by comparison with population studies.
