Effect of blood pressure on cardiovascular diseases at 10-year follow-up

The American Journal of Cardiology May 01, 2019

Cho NH, et al. - Via analyzing data from the Korean Health and Genome Study (n=10,038), researchers assessed the prevalence as well as related cardiovascular prognosis of Korean individuals with newly reclassified hypertension according to the 2017ACC/AHA guideline. Findings revealed a significant linear association between blood pressure (BP) profiles and cardiovascular disease (CVD)/mortality. Above a systolic BP of 120mm Hg, an increased hazard ratio for CVD was reported. They found a significant association of increased risk of CVD, coronary heart disease, stroke, CVD death, and total deaths with a systolic BP ≥130mm Hg. Data revealed a similar significant linear association with diastolic BP categories between CVD risk and death. A link between BP and increased risk of CVD or all-cause mortalities was evident. For the prediction of CVD and mortality in Korean people, the possible applicability of the new BP categories of the 2017ACC/AHA guideline was suggested in this study.
