Effect of bisphosphonates on periprosthetic bone loss after total knee arthroplasty: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders Jun 08, 2018
Shi M, et al. - Experts evaluated the impact of bisphosphonates (BPs) on maintaining periprosthetic bone mineral density (BMD) following total knee arthroplasty in a meta-analysis which included high-quality randomized controlled trials (RCTs). The reduction of periprosthetic bone loss after total knee arthroplasty was affected for a short term by BPs. A greater effectiveness of BPs on the preservation of BMD in medial-lateral metaphyseal regions of the proximal tibia and in anterior, central, and posterior metaphyseal region of distal femur was seen vs diaphyseal region.
