Effect of antibiotic-impregnated bone cement in primary total knee arthroplasty
Journal of Arthroplasty May 28, 2019
Anis HK, et al. - Researchers examined how commercially available antibiotic-impregnated bone cement (AIBC) influences prosthetic joint infections (PJIs) and surgical site infections (SSIs) after primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Reviewing an institutional database, they identified 12,541 cases and separated these cases into AIBC (n = 4337) and non-AIBC (8,164) cohorts. Outcomes revealed that AIBC in primary TKAs led to no clinically or statistically significant decrease in infection rates.
