Eating behavior among persons with type 2 diabetes mellitus in North Ethiopia: A cross-sectional study
BMC Endocrine Disorders May 28, 2021
Gebreyesus HA, Abreha GF, Besherae SD, et al. - Researchers performed this cross-sectional study to evaluate the eating behavior of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in North Ethiopia. From September to November 2019, 421 individuals (226 female) with T2DM, mean age 58.2 (±11) years, were analyzed. Socio-demographic variables were obtained utilizing structured questionnaires; an asset-based wealth index was used to determine socioeconomic status. The overall eating behavior of adults with T2DM in North Ethiopia is extremely low. The lack of access to nutrition education services was the most significant factor linked to unhealthy eating behavior. To close the gap, a variety of integrated approaches, including nutrition education during consultation, should be implemented.
