Early trajectories of skin thickening are associated with severity and mortality in systemic sclerosis
Arthritis Research & Therapy Feb 25, 2020
Ledoult E, Launay D, Behal H, et al. - Researchers examined a sum of 198 individuals in order to distinguish the classes of individuals with early similar skin thickening trajectories without any a priori assumptions and study their associations with organ involvement and survival. Individuals with a disease duration of fewer than 2 years at inclusion and with at least 2 mRSS available within the first 4 years of follow-up were included from the French systemic sclerosis (SSc) national cohort. Based on a latent class mixed model, classes of individuals with similar mRSS trajectories were distinguished. This study observed a progressively increasing risk of death from classes 1 to 5 using Cox regression. In SSc Early identification of clinical phenotype based on skin thickening trajectories could predict morbi-mortality. This research demonstrated that mRSS trajectories characterization might be pivotal for clinical practice and future trial designs.
