Dynamic assessment of the tear film muco-aqueous and lipid layers using a novel tear film imager (TFI)
British Journal of Ophthalmology Apr 26, 2019
Segev F, et al. - To evaluate new technology, the tear film imager (TFI), which could dynamically image the muco-aqueous and lipid layers, researchers examined 49 individuals with a mean age of 58.8 years in this prospective pilot case series. They recorded excellent reproducibility of the muco-aqueous layer thickness (MALT). They also found MALT measurements significantly associated with the Schirmer score. Compared to the control group, MALT and lipid break up time were significantly thinner and shorter, respectively, in the dry eye groups (mild-moderate and severe).
