Duration of chronic heart failure affects outcomes with preserved effects of heart rate reduction with ivabradine: Findings from SHIFT
European Journal of Heart Failure Nov 01, 2017
Bohm M, et al. - This paper determined if the duration of heart failure (HF) prior to therapy independently exerted an impact on the outcomes and whether it altered the effect of heart rate reduction. The outcome was speculated by the duration of HF, independent of the risk indicators such as higher age, greater severity and more co-morbidities. An improvement was noted in the outcomes independently of HF duration via heart rate reduction with ivabradine. Early initiation of HF treatments was recommended and emphasis was laid on the characterization of the HF populations, based on the chronicity of HF in prospective trials.
