Double-blind placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial of neurofeedback for attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder with 13 month follow-up
Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Sep 07, 2020
Eugene Arnold L, Arns M, Barterian J, et al. - This 2-site double-blind randomized clinical trial was undertaken to determine if theta/beta-ratio (TBR) electroencephalographic biofeedback (neurofeedback, NF) has a specific impact on attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) beyond nonspecific benefit. One hundred forty-four children, aged 7 to 10 years, with rigorously diagnosed moderate/severe ADHD and theta/beta-ratio (TBR) > 4.5 were randomized 3:2 to deliberate TBR downtraining vs a control of equal duration, intensity, and appearance. According to the results, blinding was great. This research does not support a clear impact of deliberate TBR NF at either treatment end or 13-month follow-up. Participants are to be reassessed at a follow-up of 25 months.
