Does the tripartite influence model of body image and eating pathology function similarly across racial/ethnic groups of White, black, Latina, and Asian women?
Eating Behaviours May 13, 2021
Burke NL, Schaefer LM, Karvay YG, et al. - The present study was performed to evaluate whether the tripartite influence model of body image and eating pathology function similarly across racial/ethnic groups of White, Black, Latina and Asian women. In this study, 1,167 White, 212 Black, 203 Latina, and 176 Asian women from five geographically disparate college campuses in the United States were included. The data demonstrate that the sociocultural risk processes for eating pathology distinguished through the tripartite influence model are similar across racial/ethnic groups of young adult women, although some groups report lower levels of proposed risk factors. It has been considered that such information can be used to inform culturally sensitive interventions.
