Does small vessel disease burden impact collateral circulation in ischemic stroke treated by mechanical thrombectomy?

Stroke Jun 02, 2019

Eker OF, et al. - In patients treated by mechanical thrombectomy for anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke, researchers ascertained if small vessel disease (SVD) burden can influence collateral development. Participants in the study were patients admitted for anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke and treated by mechanical thrombectomy with or without thrombolysis and who had baseline magnetic resonance imaging. The criteria for inclusion were met by 240 patients between January 2013 and March 2018. The investigators found that collateral flow status does not appear to be influenced by SVD burden in patients with anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke.
