Does pelvic floor muscle maximum voluntary contraction improve after vaginal pelvic organ prolapse surgery? A prospective study
Neurourology and Urodynamics May 10, 2018
Duarte TB, et al. - Authors evaluated pelvic floor muscle maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) before and after surgical treatment for pelvic organ prolapse (POP). They conducted a prospective observational study with women scheduled for surgical correction of POP. Findings did not suggest any difference in MVC pre and postsurgery, nonetheless an improvement was found in pelvic floor muscle (PFM) average contraction strength post-surgery. After surgery, the average contraction was higher. As per data, the higher the severity of pre and postsurgery pelvic organ prolapse (POP), the worse the MVC.
