Does Nd:YAG capsulotomy increase the risk of retinal detachment?
Asia-Pacific Journal of Ophthalmology Jul 01, 2019
Grzybowski A, et al. - Using the terms “retinal detachment” and “neodymium:YAG (Nd:YAG) laser capsulotomy,” a PubMed and Medline search was conducted to assess the connection between Nd:YAG capsulotomy and risk for developing retinal detachment (RD). Findings revealed that there is a low risk of developing RD after Nd:YAG capsulotomy and it is unlikely that Nd:YAG capsulotomy will increase RD incidence based on present proof. Because it can not be concluded that Nd:YAG capsulotomy does not boost RD rates in this cohort, myopic patients with longer ocular axial length should be handled carefully. Treatment energy should be as small as possible, as elevated levels of energy and anterior hyaloid damage could raise the chance for RD development. Cataract surgery is a potential risk factor for RD, especially after complications of intraoperative capsules.
