Does hallucination perceptual modality impact psychosis risk?
Acta Psychiatrica Scandinavica Aug 01, 2019
Niles HF, et al. - Given the observed utility of subthreshold perceptual abnormalities in the identification of individuals at clinical high risk (CHR) for developing a psychotic disorder, researchers examined predictive validity for modality-specific perceptual abnormality severity on psychosis risk. They analyzed data from 164 individuals age 12-35 meeting criteria for CHR followed for 6-24 months or until conversion to psychosis. Findings revealed no meaningful predictive value of perceptual abnormality scores for conversion to psychosis in either direction in this CHR sample. However, a group of CHR individuals at elevated risk of conversion could be identified via assessing verbal auditory experiences.
