Does frontalis sling surgery for congenital ptosis change the corneal topography and refractive characteristics postoperatively?
Clinical Ophthalmology Nov 04, 2020
Gandhi A, et al. - Researchers conducted this prospective study to assess the impact of frontalis sling surgery for congenital ptosis on corneal curvature and refractive status. The sample consisted of 48 patients (60 eyes) with severe simple congenital ptosis who underwent surgical correction by frontalis sling surgery. Ptosis surgery modifies the corneal curvature, restores corneal symmetry and reduces astigmatism; thus altering the patient's refractive status, which needs to be addressed postoperatively to improve vision quality. Children with severe ptosis can benefit from early surgery to achieve a better astigmatic reduction.
