Does familial aggregation of chronic low back pain affect recovery?: A population-based twin study
Spine Sep 01, 2017
Zadro JR, et al. – This longitudinal twin–cohort study aimed to investigate whether familial aggregation of chronic low back pain (LBP) affect recovery. At baseline, having a sibling with chronic LBP increased the likelihood of LBP at follow–up by 20%, with this likelihood increasing to 50% if the sibling was an identical twin. The outcomes were novel and underscored the important influence genetics have on people's recovery from chronic LBP. Information about the presence of chronic LBP within a family was easy to obtain and had the potential to inform clinicians on which patients were less likely to recover when treatment implementation was not considered.
