Does Dexamethasone reduce hospital readiness for discharge, pain, nausea and early patient satisfaction in hip and knee arthroplasty?: A randomized controlled trial
Journal of Arthroplasty Jul 25, 2018
Dissanayake R, et al. - Authors evaluated whether or not hospital length of stay was reduced by perioperative dexamethasone in hip and knee arthroplasty. They also evaluated the impact on pain, nausea and vomiting and patient satisfaction. IV dexamethasone led to a reduction in post-operative pain scores and/or morphine requirements with subsequent readiness for discharge especially in patients undergoing elective THA. Findings suggested similarity of nausea scores in the two groups but there was lower anti-emetic usage in the study group.
