Does chronic kidney disease predict stroke risk independent of blood pressure? A systematic review and meta-regression
Stroke Oct 18, 2019
Kelly DM, et al. - A total of 168 studies reporting data on 5,611,939 individuals with 115,770 stroke outcomes were recruited in order to ascertain whether there was still an independent association between CKD and stroke risk following adjusting for traditional risk factors, especially with more whole adjustment for confounding by blood pressure. According to this systematic review and meta-regression, the correlation of chronic kidney disease with stroke seems to be highly dependent on the hypertension adjustment method. The apparently independent connection between chronic kidney disease and stroke can be confounded by their shared relation with long-term prior blood pressure.
