Dissociation between hormonal counterregulatory responses and cerebral glucose metabolism during hypoglycemia

Lee JJ, et al. - Previous studies failed to clarify the extent to which physiological and behavioral responses that maintain euglycemia are normally triggered by decreased whole brain cerebral glucose metabolism (CMRglc). In this current study, it was demonstrated that a decrease in whole brain CMRglc was not responsible for the observed increases in epinephrine and glucagon secretion with declining plasma glucose concentrations.
