Disruption of human stratum corneum lipid structure by sodium dodecyl sulfate
International Journal of Cosmetic Science Sep 21, 2017
Yanase K, et al. - This trial comprised of an analysis of the surfactant-induced disruption of the intercellular lipid structure of human stratum corneum (SC) at the molecular level, with the aid of the synchrotron X-ray diffraction. It was noted that the disruption of the long lamellar structure played a crucial role in the damage to the SC caused by detergents. The findings clarified the details of the disorganization of the intercellular lipid structure upon surfactant application. The yielded data could assist in the development of skin restoration methods and cleanser products that did not affect skin barrier functions.
