Disinfection of polyvinyl siloxane impression material by gaseous ozone

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry Jan 12, 2018

Celebi H, et al. - Researchers compared the efficacy of gaseous ozone and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) in disinfecting light-body consistency hydrophilized polyvinyl siloxane (PVS) impression specimens inoculated with a cocktail of Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Enterococcus faecalis. Furthermore, they aimed to evaluate the effect of both disinfectants on the wettability of the material on uninoculated specimens. As gaseous ozone treatment had a positive effect on the wettability of the material, this treatment was identified as a promising method for disinfecting polymerized PVS impression materials.
