Dietary total antioxidant capacity and colorectal cancer and colorectal adenomatous polyps: A case-control study

European Journal of Cancer Prevention Dec 12, 2020

Rafiee P, Jafari Nasab S, Bahrami A, et al. - This study was undertaken to evaluate the relationship of total antioxidant capacity (TAC) with the odds of colorectal cancer (CRC) and colorectal adenomatous polyps (CAP). Researchers conducted a case-control study including 130 participants with incident, histologically confirmed CRC, 134 cases with the incident of CAP, and 243 hospital-based controls. They evaluated TAC with the dietary ferric-reducing antioxidant potential and oxygen radical absorbance capacity method based on collected dietary intake data through a reproducible and valid food frequency questionnaire. Multiple logistic regression calculated adjusted odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs) for the relationship between the TAC and CRC and CAP odds. The results implied an inverse relationship between TAC and CRC and CAP risk. TAC was significantly linked with CRC and CAP odds, after controlling for potential confounders.
