Dietary sodium intake and its relationship to adiposity in young black and white adults: The African-PREDICT study
The Journal of Clinical Hypertension Jul 13, 2018
Crouch SH, et al. - Given that a controversial positive relationship between dietary salt and obesity has been recently reported, researchers looked for the possible association of obesity-related measures with 24-hour urinary sodium in a healthy biethnic population. Study participants were 761 adults (20-30 years) with complete 24-hour urinary sodium, anthropometry, and bioelectrical impedance measurements. Findings revealed a consistent and strong positive relationship between body surface area and estimated salt intake. No association with traditional obesity measures, such as body mass index, was observed.
