Dietary potential renal acid load and risk of albuminuria and reduced kidney function in the Jackson Heart Study
Journal of Renal Nutrition May 27, 2018
Banerjee T, et al. - Researchers explored the association of dietary acid load (DAL) with chronic kidney disease (CKD) in African-Americans aged >20 years in Jackson Heart Study. Using median regression, they assessed associations of participant characteristics with DAL. They used logistic regression to examine the associations of DAL with albuminuria, reduced kidney function, or CKD. Higher DAL was detected in younger adults, men, and those with higher body mass index. Findings demonstrated that higher DAL was related to higher prevalence of CKD and to reduced kidney function. They also found that the association between DAL and albuminuria was mediated by aldosterone and endothelin.
