Diagnostic accuracy of periostin in predicting asthma: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of Asthma Nov 29, 2019
Jia X, et al. - Whether periostin affords an accurate option for the diagnosis of asthma, was determined via a systematic review and meta-analysis. Researchers identified relevant studies through December 31, 2018, by exploring the electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, Web of science). The meta-analysis was performed by using bivariate mixed effects model. Overall 9 studies with 1,448 individuals with asthma were analyzed. The pooled sensitivity was 0.68 (95% CI, 0.42–0.86), specificity was 0.87 (95% CI, 0.76–0.93), and diagnostic odds ratio was 13.78 (95% CI, 4.64–40.93). The area under the summary receiver operating curves was identified to be 0.87 (95% CI, 0.84–0.90). Findings revealed moderate accuracy of periostin in the diagnosis of asthma.
