Diagnosis and management of three optic neuropathies: A national survey
Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology May 14, 2020
Lee HJ, et al. - Using a national survey in South Korea, the researchers sought to assess the current practice patterns of neuro-ophthalmologists in diagnosis and management of three optic neuropathies and to further compare the practices of neuro-ophthalmologists divided into junior and senior groups based on their clinical practice experience. Study participants were classified into senior (≥ 10 years) and junior (< 10 years) groups. In total, 63 responders (response rate 78.8%) answered the questionnaire. All responders conducted the basic blood tests and brain imaging for assessing optic neuropathy. No significant difference was found between the senior and junior groups in all questionnaire answers. Optic neuropathies are similarly managed by the two groups in South Korea, and many of them still use steroids. Compared with other countries, the authors provided reliable reasons for the outcomes.
