Rabbone I, Maltoni G, Tinti D, et al. - Following an earlier survey on the incidence of diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) at onset of type 1 diabetes (T1D) in children in 2013–2014 in Italy, researchers conducted this prospective observational study to check a possible decline in the incidence of DKA at onset during a national prevention campaign. Data were collected on all patients (aged 0 to 18 years) with new-onset diabetes during 2016 and 2017. Records (n = 2,361) of children with newly diagnosed T1D were obtained from 58 out of 68 (85.3%) centres of the original survey candidates and 100% of the previously surveyed tertiary centres. According to findings, DKA at onset of diabetes in children and adolescents 0–18 years is still common and increased when contrasted with the 2013–2014 survey during a 2-year awareness campaign.
