Diabetes mellitus and the risk of fractures at specific sites: A meta-analysis
BMJ Open Jan 09, 2019
Wang H, et al. – Via identification and analysis of relevant studies from the PubMed, EMBASE, and Cochrane Library databases from inception to March 2018, researchers determined whether the relationship between diabetes mellitus (DM) and fracture at different sites vary according to patient characteristics. According to findings, there may be an association of DM with an increased risk of total, hip, upper arm, and ankle fractures. On the other hand, DM had no significant impact on the incidence of distal forearm and vertebral fractures. Furthermore, type 1 DM was associated with a greater risk of total, hip and ankle fracture vs type 2 DM. No sex difference was found in fractures at different sites.
