Dextrose intravenous fluid therapy in labor reduces the length of the first stage of labor
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Jul 22, 2018
Riegel M, et al. - Via performing a systematic review with meta-analysis, researchers evaluated the effect on length of labor when patients receive IVF with or without dextrose. Searching electronic databases from inception of each database to May 2018, they identified trials comparing intrapartum IVF containing dextrose (ie, intervention group) with no dextrose or placebo (ie, control group). Findings suggest that in low-risk women, using IVF with dextrose during labor at term had no influence on total length of labor, however, it shortened the first stage of labor.
