Detection of human papillomavirus subtypes harbored in the foreskin of asymptomatic boys: Controlled study

Agras K, Doluoglu OG, Acikgoz ZC, et al. - This study was sought to assess the colonization of 32 human papillomavirus infection (HPV) subtypes in the foreskin of boys. Researchers performed a prospective analysis to include data of 62 healthy boys who underwent standard circumcision. They further analyzed the DNA of each patient with real-time polymerase chain reaction and explore the presence of 32 subtypes of HPV. They conducted melting curve analysis and agarose gel electrophoresis for all samples in order to validate the results. Applying LCD-array on six randomly selected samples , future evaluation was made to confirm the results together with negative and positive controls. The outcomes of this study illustrate that foreskin tissue is not a natural reservoir for HPV and subclinical HPV infection is not likely in the absence of suspected sexual contact.
