Wei FF, et al. – Experts wanted to reveal if desphospho–uncarboxylated matrix Gla protein (dp–ucMGP) was a novel circulating biomarker predicting deterioration of renal function in the general population. A biomarker of poor vitamin K status, dp–ucMGP predicted renal dysfunction. In addition, protection by activated MGP against calcification and inhibition of the bone morphogenetic protein–signalling pathway were included in possible underlying mechanisms.
