Depression symptoms and quality of life among individuals with aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease
Journal of Asthma May 23, 2019
Feldman JM, et al. - Among adults with aspirin-exacerbated respiratory disease (AERD; n=32), researchers assessed levels of depression symptoms, asthma-related quality of life, and asthma control. They also included 39 patients without AERD (asthma-only) in this study. The participants (between 19 to 84 years of ages) were selected from outpatient asthma/allergy clinics and largely included ethnic minority, inner-city patients. Although clinician-rated asthma severity was high among AERD patients, these subjects had low levels of depression symptoms as well as positive perceptions of asthma-associated impairment, which suggests that AERD patients may be resilient. In AERD, the adult-onset nature of asthma was suggested to have a possible protective impact on mental health.
