Depression, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and healthcare utilization: Results from the Korean longitudinal study of aging (KLoSA)
The Clinical Respiratory Journal May 28, 2021
Hoon HC, et al. - The present study was conducted to explore the relationship between chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and depression, and the effects of comorbid COPD and depression on health care utilization. Researchers recruited a total of 10,180 Korean adults (4,437 men and 5,743 women; all aged ≥ 45 years) who participated in the cross‐sectional Korean Longitudinal Study of Aging. They evaluated depression with the 10‐item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale. A positive relationship was found between COPD and depression. In patients with COPD, depression is correlated with an elevated likelihood of multiple hospital admissions.
