Delayed cord clamping may not be beneficial in the premature infant

Katheria AC - This study investigated the efficacy of delayed, compared with immediate, cord clamping in reducing death or major morbidity among premature infants. The enrollment consisted of preterm infants <30 weeks' gestation. Findings did not reveal any difference in death by 36 weeks of gestation after controlling for multiple secondary outcomes. It was deduced that delayed cord clamping did not confer any benefit to the premature infant.
