Decreased lean psoas cross-sectional area is associated with increased 1-year all-cause mortality in male elderly orthopaedic trauma patients

Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma Dec 22, 2018

Touban BM, et al. - Authors studied the demographic and clinical data of 558 cases in this retrospective cohort to analyze the association of lean psoas cross-sectional area (CSA) with 1-year all-cause mortality (death within 12 months from the date of hospitalization) in elders bearing pelvic and long bone fractures, from 2007 to 2014. They recorded pelvic fractures in 37.81% of cases and observed a high mortality rate in males as compared to females with a significant link between decreased lean psoas CSA and 1-year mortality.
