Cytokine profiles of phakic and pseudophakic eyes with primary retinal detachment
Acta Ophthalmologica Dec 21, 2018
Garweg JG, et al. - Authors studied aqueous humor (AH) and vitreous fluid (VF) samples of 71 eyes with retinal detachment (RD) and 26 eyes with macular holes (MH) and 43 different cytokines using multiplex cytokine analysis, to recognize variations in the specific cytokine profiles and also to compare the cytokine profiles of phakic (p) and pseudophakic (ps) eyes with primary rhegmatogenous RD to eyes with MH. They observed a complex nonspecific cytokine environmental response inducing the immunological and profibrotic processes following RD but no important variations in the cytokine profiles of eyes with pRD and psRD were identified. They explained cytokine differences between AH and VF in RD by upregulation in the vitreous compartment or differences in inflammatory cascades in both the chambers.
